Leather 'n Hawgs was started sometime in 2004 or 2005 when Leatherman (the happy guy in the picture) moved to Iowa from somewhere far away and couldn't find anyone to sew the patches onto his vest. "I ended up paying fifty bucks to get a couple little patches sewn on," he said. "I was so angry I went out and bought an $1,800 sewing machine of my own. I mean, fifty bucks? Come on... That's WAY too much."
For a while Leatherman and his wife shared their basement with a sewing machine and assorted leather products they sold to friends. Word spread, business grew, and they bought a building downtown and remodeled it into a store. "We both have day jobs," Leatherman said, "so it took us a little while to fix the shop up. That was just a couple years ago. Now we're so full I'm gonna move the saddlebags and accessories to the garage out back and spread the shop into two buildings."
In addition to selling coats, vests, chaps, T-shirts, halter tops, helmets, patches, rain gear, doorags, and other assorted neat stuff, Leatherman still keeps the sewing machine busy, and is always finding ways to make things interesting. "Hey, I'm gonna put a grill out back on Sundays this summer," he said. "Next time you stop by on a Sunday plan to have yourself a little barbeque!" Leather 'n Hawgs is also the only distributor of Convicted Clothing in the Iowa. If you're looking for something that you don't see on this site, just give us a call at (712) 251-7319 - we probably have it tucked away somewhere!
